About Sierra

I am a Reading Teacher at Ormond Beach Middle School. Go Panthers! I am the head of the OBMS Student Government. Teaching is my passion, and I cannot see myself doing anything else.

I believe in each and every student that I teach. I feel that each student is unique and will learn in their own way. “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn” – Benjamin Franklin. I believe in Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences. In his Theory of Multiple Intelligences, Gardner expanded the concept of intelligence to also include such areas as music, special relations and interpersonal knowledge, in addition to mathematical and linguistic ability. I feel that students need to be taught in many different ways to be able to understand something truly. Differentiated instruction is the key to student learning.

I feel that all students need a secure, caring and stimulating atmosphere to learn in. It is my wish as a teacher to help my students meet their goals. There are many elements that I believe will help me build this environment for my students. Three of them include:

  • being a strong guide
  • allowing my students to use their curiosity to direct their learning
  • being respectful to all my students and fellow co-workers

I am a strong guide for my students. I want to show my students my love for learning, so they will want to learn as well. I want to show my students that the search for knowledge is met as they learn to find answers to their questions, and that I will always be there for them to ask questions.

I want to provide my students with hands-on activities and allow adequate time and space to use materials that reinforce the lesson being taught. I want to develop my curriculum around students’ interests to motivate and stimulate their passion for learning. I want to help my students develop a deep love and respect for themselves, others, and their environment.

I want my students to feel to free to express themselves in my classroom. I feel that my students will have greater value for me as a teacher, their peers and the lessons that I am presenting if they feel safe in the environment that they are in. “Education is simply the soul of a society as it passes from one generation to another.” – Gilbert K. Chesterton
